Covenanters Resource Page
This page is intended as a resource for the Covenanters who fought the Battle of Bothwell Bridge (22 June 1679) and were banished to the plantations in the U.S. as slaves. 257 of these Covenanters were transported on the Crown of London which was shipwrecked off Deerness on 10 Dec 1679.
The following resources are available from this page:
- Bob Miller's research covers both the Battle of Bothwell Bridge, and the subsequent wreck of the Crown. A passenger list is also provided. Bob can be contacted here
- Mel Rich's document provides a passenger list of the Crown. There are a couple of subtle differences so both his and Bob's are provided separately. Mel also poses some interesting questions about some of the passengers, especially with regard to his Rich heritage. Mel can be contacted here
- The wreck of the Crown as presented in The Orcadian, Thursday, October 6, 1988
- Battle of Bothwell Bridge and its aftermath, abridged from Alexander Smellie's Men of the Covenant published nearly a hundred years ago.

- Betty Rudolph maintains a page on Thomas Brownlee who fought at the Battle of
Bothwell Bridge and was on the Crown when it sunk. Hanna lists Thomas as
being killed, but he actually survived and died in 1713
